The Rods

In order to provide you with the best rod for the job, I use the best components.

"The bitterness of poor quality remains long after the sweetness of a low price is forgotten."

Benjamin Franklin

When you are faced with a potential fish of a lifetime, there are many factors that can go through your head during the fight. Line, crimps and hooks are the first worry but a rod can also be a concern if cheap parts or improper construction techniques are used.

Blanks

The most crucial component selection of any successful build, is the blank. Years of building and field testing has given me the knowledge to be able to discuss your requirements in depth.

Trolling
Traditional E-Glass trolling blanks from 20lb to 130lb class.

Stand Up
E-Glass in a variety of tapers and lengths.
Suitable for Skate, Sharks, Marlin and Tuna.
LR40 - A Shark blank best suited to 30 class reels with either lighter rollers or conventional guides.
LR50 - The all round big fish blank. A forgiving, parabolic action. Responsible for the capture of Blue Marlin to 700lb, BFT to 600lb, very big Porbeagles and Threshers plus Skate topping 200lb.
Perfect for 50 class reels.
LT50 - A slightly faster actioned version of the above blank for those who prefer a stiffer low to mid section on a 6ft-6'6" rod. Again, ideally suited to 50 class reels.
LH50 - For finished rods of 5'6" - 6". The most powerful of the 50 class E-Glass blanks but still maintains the forgiving nature of this material, cushioning lunges and protecting hook holds.

LSC3050, LSC5080 and LSC50100
Legacy Rods' own Carbon/S-Glass series.
Powerful and technically advanced.
The 30-50 is a versatile blank that has subdued Porbeagles to 400lb in Cornwall. Great for big Conger eels too. Part of the design brief of the 50-80 and 50-100 models was that they must be capable of higher drag settings than the E-Glass equivalents and be true to class. Quite often E-Glass models are over rated by some manufacturers where the blanks originate in the far east and most fall into the 50 class category, including those rated 60-130.
The 50-80 is a great all round very big fish rod, suitable for large Porbeagles, Threshers and Tuna.
For an all out Tuna stand up rod the 50-100 would be my suggestion.
The LSC range are made to order one by one for me and are of the highest quality. As such, the lead time is generally longer than for the E Glass.

Guides

Rollers or conventional guides. Each have their own merits and options will be discussed in depth.

Butts

Short straight, regular straight, short bent, regular bent. 'What's he on about?' I can explain in depth when we talk, if you are unsure of the merits of each.

Legacy Rods 'LSC' blanks.

Whilst the E-Glass blanks have proven themselves over the years for durability at a good price point, there has always been customers that would like a blank that is a cut above, both in terms of the material used in its construction and its action.

Since the demise of Conoflex, the only alternative has been to source high spec blanks from the US.

I am very proud to now be able to offer a superb alternative. Made by a world class blank manufacturer from Carbon and S-Glass and available in 30/50, 50/80 and 50/100 class.

Thicker walled and with different taper designs to the E-Glass equivalents, they offer more power in the lower section and the 50/80 and 50/100 models are better suited to higher drag settings than their E-glass counterparts. If you are fishing with a maximum of 30lb of drag, then the E-Glass is absolutely fine if that is your only concern.
